School Safety Officer

Direct Hire: $19/hr
Location: Gwinnett County (various school campuses)
On-site

Role Description
The School Safety Officer is a highly visible and community-engaged professional responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive school environment. This role involves patrolling school grounds, managing emergencies, and building strong relationships with students and staff. This position plays a key role in conflict resolution, crisis response, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Conduct proactive patrols across campus to deter misconduct and ensure safety
• Respond to emergencies including medical incidents and facility threats
• Monitor building access and enforce visitor management protocols
• Apply de-escalation strategies to resolve conflicts
• Manage traffic and student movement during arrival and dismissal
• Build relationships with students, staff, and families
• Document incidents and daily observations using reporting software
• Support school events with tailored safety plans
• Provide CPR, AED, and first aid during medical emergencies

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Experience in school safety, security, law enforcement, or youth development preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Skilled in conflict resolution and trauma-informed practices
• Physically able to stand and walk for extended periods
• Committed to ongoing training in safety and DEI
• 24 Hour Unarmed Guard Certification
