Job Title: Lab Assistant

Pay: $19.50/hour

Location: Lenexa, KS

Shifts Available:

• Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

• Tuesday - Saturday, 1:00 PM - 9:30 PM

Job Summary:

The Lab Assistant performs routine laboratory support functions to assist laboratory professionals and maintain smooth workflow. Responsibilities include specimen handling, equipment maintenance, and general lab operations, all performed with precision and in accordance with safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Receive, sort, and log specimens into the department

• Centrifuge, aliquot, label, and prepare specimens for testing

• Build worklists and check specimens for clots or fibrin

• Prepare slides, media, and reagents

• Perform routine instrument maintenance and equipment checks

• Maintain accurate records (e.g., temperature charts, QA/QC logs)

• Retrieve, store, and locate specimens as needed

• Decontaminate work areas and conduct radioactive wipe tests

• Dispose of biohazardous waste and follow all PPE/safety guidelines

• Use lab computer systems and PCs to manage data

• Change gas cylinders and maintain department files

• Complete required training and competency checklists

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Medical assistant training helpful

  • Math and science coursework preferred

• Experience: No experience required

• Skills:
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize efficiently

  • Quick learner with strong memory retention

  • Professional, courteous communication with colleagues and customers
