Contract (1099) | Part-Time | As-Needed
Pay: $50$75/hour (DOE)

Role Summary:

Were hiring a Chicago-based Employment Attorney or HR Legal Consultant to join our growing team on a flexible, project-based contract. You will be our go-to legal expert for the market, supporting a region rich in behavioral health innovation, Medicaid-funded services, and human-centered clinics.

You'll work mostly remotely and step in only when needed , with full autonomy. This is an ideal opportunity for a solo attorney, boutique firm partner, or HR-versed legal consultant looking to make an impact in a mission-driven, high-growth firm.

Responsibilities:
  • Review and draft policies, contracts, handbooks, and compliance SOPs

  • Advise on employee investigations, performance plans, and risk mitigation

  • Guide legal decisions involving FLSA, ADA, EEOC, FMLA, contractor classification, and Chicago-specific laws

  • Draft and review legal documents (NDAs, non-competes, severance, arbitration agreements)

  • Join high-level internal or client meetings when legal expertise is required

  • Monitor labor law changes in the area and advise leadership accordingly

Requirements:
  • JD and active law license in Illinois

  • 5+ years of employment law experience, preferably supporting small businesses, healthcare, or nonprofits

  • Familiarity with Medicaid, behavioral health providers, or trauma-informed HR a plus

  • Must be comfortable operating independently as a 1099 contractor

Compensation & Perks:
  • $50 to $75/hour depending on experience and engagement scope
