Experience: 3+ years heavy truck / diesel mechanic experience required
CDL: Preferred (Class A or B preferred, not required)
Shift: Monday–Friday (rotating Saturdays), Overtime offered
Compensation: $30-$35+/hrly
About the role
We’re are looking to hire a dependable Heavy Truck Mechanic to join our family-owned shop in Waterman, IL. You’ll be working on heavy trucks, trailers, and support equipment — diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance to keep fleets moving safely and on schedule.
What you’ll do
Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty diesel trucks, tractors, and trailers (brakes, suspensions, engines, drivetrains, electrical, HVAC, air systems).
Perform scheduled PMs and DOT inspections; complete accurate service records.
Troubleshoot electrical/electronic systems, read wiring diagrams, and use diagnostic tools (scan tools, multimeters).
Remove/replace major components (engines, transmissions, differentials) as needed.
Welding, fabrication, and basic hydraulic repair as required.
Keep shop clean, stocked, and organized; follow safety procedures and PPE rules.
Communicate repair status and needed parts with service advisors and parts staff.
Occasionally assist with roadside or field service calls as needed.
Must-have qualifications
3+ years' experience as a heavy truck / diesel mechanic (fleet, dealer, or heavy equipment experience accepted).
Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with diesel engines and air brake systems.
Ability to read schematics and use diagnostic tools.
Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred (Class A/B) — not required but a plus.
Comfortable lifting up to 75 lbs, working under vehicles, and standing for long periods.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
