As a member of the University Counseling Center (UCC) team, the Counselor/Therapist is responsible for the assessment and delivery of mental health services on an outpatient basis to students with varying emotional and psychological concerns. The Counselor/Therapist will split their full-time work hours between the University Counseling Center, the School of Law and other critical-need areas on campus as needed. The Counselor/Therapist will conduct initial consultations with students in order to determine a plan for future counseling services, referrals to alternative campus and/or community resources. Additional counseling services include prevention services, crisis intervention and outreach support to faculty, staff and student organizations. Primary job responsibilities include overseeing phone, in-person and/or virtual triage and initial wellness consultation appointments for the UCC and managing interactions with clients to ensure appropriate level of support is provided in an efficient manner; providing in-person and/or virtual psychotherapy/counseling services for students as individuals, couples and/or in groups; traveling between SLU campuses to provide counseling services and serve as a clinical counseling liaison between the UCC and other campus departments as needed; offering crisis intervention services to students with clinical emergencies; utilizing nationally and internationally recognized diagnostic systems to diagnose students and develop and implement treatment plans consistent with clinical diagnosis; maintaining compliance with mandatory local, state, and federal reporting laws and professional and ethical standards and guidelines; referring students to off-campus clinical services for specialized treatment and/or long-term therapy as appropriate; providing outreach and education about UCC service offerings to staff, faculty, and student organizations; maintaining a knowledge of federal, state, and local mental health system and well-being resources; keeping timely, accurate, and ethical records consistent with UCC policy; participating in student well-being committees and UCC initiatives; attending weekly Counseling Center meetings; and performing other duties as assigned. The role requires a Master’s Degree and full licensure as Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counseling (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Psychologist with training and experience with intake interviewing/assessment/consultation, crisis intervention case management, three years of related work experience, certification/licensure in the State of Missouri or eligibility for MO licensure, experience with diverse populations, training in trauma-informed care and psychotherapy approaches to trauma, and strong interpersonal, clinical, and organizational skills.
