Position Overview COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICER – City of North Miami Beach This position performs para‑professional work of considerable difficulty including field and office duties relating to routine, non‑criminal aspects of law enforcement. Responsibilities include accident investigations, report writing, non‑confrontational police calls for service, and traffic enforcement/direction. It does not include arrest powers, authorization to carry a weapon, or enforcement of criminal law. Duties Provides assistance and support to uniform police officers in the performance of their patrol duties to enhance services offered to the public in non‑hazardous situations. Responds to all dispatched calls for service and prepares all appropriate reports. Maintains accurate records of reports. Performs field investigation and prepares reports of accidents and injuries. Responds to traffic accident scenes and prepares reports. Directs traffic as needed. Prepares various reports and records. Operates and utilizes various office equipment and machinery in the performance of daily activities, including a computer, printer, calculator, etc. Performs other related duties as needed. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. 18 years of age or older. Proof of completion of the CJBAT – LE test scores. Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to read and write English. Bilingual helpful. Valid Florida driver’s license. Additional Qualifications Ability to handle multiple tasks. Ability to record and deliver information and to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to utilize mathematical formulas, add and subtract totals, multiply and divide, determine percentages and decimals, and determine time and weight. General knowledge of the principles, practices, programs, policies and procedures of the department pertaining to the specific duties of the position. Verbal ability to prepare effective and accurate reports. Ability to read and write English. Ability to perform field and office activities relating to routine, non‑criminal aspects of law enforcement. Ability to investigate accidents, write reports and direct traffic. Good technical, organizational and human relations skills. Ability to maintain effective relationships with other employees, agencies and the public. Physically able to operate various automated office machines, including an adding machine, computer, printer, typewriter, fax machine, etc. Physically able to exert up to thirty pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work involves walking or standing for periods of time.
